Charles Haynes

Charles Roland Haynes, age 88 of Tryon Courthouse Rd. went home to be with his Lord and Savoir on Monday, August 9, 2021.  He was born April 13, 1933 in Lincoln County to the late Roland Palmer and Eva Georgiann Hoyle Haynes.  Charles was a dedicated member of Shady Grove Baptist Church where he formerly served as a Deacon and Sunday School teacher as well as currently the Chairman of the Cemetery Committee.  He retired after 37 years from Bellsouth.  Charles had a great love and dedication to ancestry and making sure to keep the most accurate tributes and memorials through his cemetery bookkeeping.  Charles was a member of the Gaston County Beekeeper’s Association.  He was a produce farmer and a great source from whom you could purchase local honey and produce. Charles was a perfectionist and took pride in making sure that anything he took part in, he did it correctly and to the best of his ability.  He was a member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans Camp 872 Gastonia, charter member of the Tryonota Fire Department, former President of Tryon Optimist, and former National Director of Dixie Youth Baseball.  Above all else, Charles was a Godly Christian man who shared his love of the Lord with everyone, as he was well known for his love of talking.  He was an excellent provider for his family and a wonderful man all around.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a great grandson, Joseph Haynes; and siblings and their spouses, Roy Haynes (Frances), Raleigh Haynes (Lois), Raymond Haynes, Herman Haynes (Sue), Carl Haynes (Linda), Elena Black (Will), Ola Mae Kampmann (Dean), and Madge Houser (Ben).

Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Hester Martin Haynes; sons, Chester Haynes and wife, Becky, Stan Haynes and wife, Donna, and Dal Haynes and wife, Christine; daughter, Vanessa Gantt and husband, George; brother, Hoyle Haynes and wife, Jo Elaine; sisters-in-law, Kathryn Haynes, Shirley Gunn, Doris Jackson, Marie Jones, and Ruby Dethmann; grandchildren, CJ Haynes (Maria), Aaron Haynes (Susan), Kristian Haynes, and Stephen Haynes (Lauren); great grandchildren, Isla Haynes and Grey Goines; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Friday, August 13, 2021 from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at Shady Grove Baptist Church.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11:00 AM at Shady Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Dale Hendricks officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
