Mrs. Zelia Mae Foster Carpenter, age 98, died Sunday, May 23, 2010 at Robin Johnson House, Dallas.  Zelia was born April 21, 1912, in Gaston County, the daughter of the late Campbell and Rosa Belle Randall Foster.  She was a homemaker and a long time member of Bethel Lutheran Church, Lincolnton, N. C.   Zelia was married to the late George Howard Carpenter for 64 years and in addition to her husband and parents she was preceded in death by a daughter Shirley Mae Carpenter Gregg, son-in-law Frank Gregg and  four brothers:  Furman, Everette,  Brite  and Basil Foster.

Survivors include her daughter: Annie Sue Gillespie of Bessemer City,  five grandchildren Michael Gregg, Delores Barrett, Scott Gillespie, Howard Gillespie, and Philip Gillespie, six great grandchildren Karen and Chris Barrett, Danielle, Beth, Peyton and Piper Gillespie, and five great great grandchildren. A special friend: Laurie Lavigne.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday May 26, 2010 at 11 AM in the Historic Bethel Lutheran Church with Pastor Steven King officiating and  burial in the Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday at Carpenter’s Funeral Home from 7-9 PM  and at other times at the home.
