Thomas Walter “Walt” Smith, Jr., Age 87, of 1013 West Carroll Street, died Friday, January 7, 2011 at White Oak Manor, Kings Mountain,  Walt was a native of Lincolnton, N. C., born November 11, 1923, the son of the late Thomas Walter Smith, Sr. and Mary Eurey Smith,  He was a former member of Cherryville American Legion Post 100, St. John’s Lutheran Church, and Owner and operator of DOROTHY’S FAYE,  a clothing manufacturer, for 20 years.  He was a verteran of WWII, and a member of the 82nd Airborne US Army .
 
 
He was also preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Black Smith,  a brother, John Smith, Sr., and a sister Ruth Aileen Smith.
 
Survivors:  Son and daughter-in- law: Dwight David and Karen Lawrence  Smith of Kings Mountain,  Brother and sisters-in-law: Bob and Evelyn Smith, and Helen P. Smith. all of Cherryville, N. C.  Great Grandson: Robert Carson Weaver, Nieces and Nephews: John Smith, Jr., Bobby Smith, Suzette Smith, Teddy S. Grigg, and Gina Black Ross.  A Very Special Friend: Preston Todd of Kings Mountain.
 
A memorial service will be conducted at 3:00PM Sunday, January 9, 2011 at Cone Memorial Chapel of Carpenter’s Funeral Home, with Rev. Mark Poe officiating.  Burial will follow in the Black Cemetery.
 
The family will receive friends from 2:00PM to 2:45PM prior to the service at the funeral home.
