Walter Bryan “W.B.” Putnam, Jr., 81, of 1013 Ranbar St., died Thursday June 3, 2010, at his residence.

He was born on October 23, 1928 in Gaston Co. a son of the late Walter Bryan and Docia Mauney Putnam, Sr.. Mr. Putnam was a member of the First Baptist Church, a 50 year member of the Masonic Lodge AM & FM #505 and the Scottish Rite. W. B. was retired driver for Carolina Freight Carriers and a WW II veteran of the US Army.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by three sons Terry, Ronald and Donald Putnam, three brothers Hugh, Kenneth, and Raleigh Putnam, and three  sisters Agnes Putnam, Jaunita Warner, and Theda Byrd.

Survivors include his wife of 59 years Betty Sue Nance Putnam, three children and spouses, Bryan Putnam III and wife Kathy of Cherryville, Karen Yoder and husband James, of Lincolnton, and Clyde Putnam and wife Ann of Kings Mountain, eight grandchildren and two great grandchild, two brothers Joe Billy and James Putnam of Cherryville and one sister Martha Jane Zeitler of Cherryville.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at Carpenter’s Funeral Home at 11 AM with Rev. David Day officiating with burial in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Lincolnton with Masonic Rites. The family will receive friends Saturday from 10-10:45 AM at the funeral home and at other times at the home.
