Tildon R. Rakes, 69, of Shelby, NC, passed away July 4, 2011 at Hospice at Wendover. He was born on Nov. 24, 1941 in Fayette County, W. Va. a son of the late George Dewey and Stella Lusher Rakes. Mr. Rakes was a pipefitter and a member of the Moose Lodge of Gastonia.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years Amy Smith Rakes, four children Debra Jackson, Tildon R. Rakes, Jr., Kelly J. Meeks and husband Nick and David Jeffries and wife Michelle, eight grandchildren Victoria Self and husband Aaron Steven Vandegrift, Ashley Carringer, Dillon Carringer, Courtney Rakes, ShawNee Rakes, Michelle Jeffries and Jimmy Jeffries, four great grandchildren Makenzie Vandegrift, Camron Vandegrift, Joseph Boone, and Jake Self, two sisters Ruth Burgess and Melody Jeffries, and three brothers William Rakes and wife Kara, Philip Rakes and wife Judy, and Charles Rakes and wife Carmen.
