Sara Hovis Beam, 94 of 111 Harrilson Rd., formerly of Bess Chapel Rd., died Monday February 23, 2009 at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.

She was born on Sept. 3, 1914 a daughter of the late Thomas Maxwell and Elizabeth Lewis Hovis. Sara was longtime member of Bess Chapel United Methodist Church where she was the organist for over 30 years.

Mrs. Beam graduated from Appalachian State College and was a leader of young minds for 36 years having taught at East Elementary, North Brook and Tryon Elementary Schools.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Karr C. Beam, son Thomas Beam and grandson Jason Beam, and two brothers Lewis and Maxwell Hovis.

Survivors include her brother Wade Hovis and wife Geraldine of Bessemer City, daughter-in-law Sandy Edwards of Cherryville, and numerous nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service will be held Wednesday at 2 PM at Bess Chapel United Methodist Church with Rev. Roy Byers and Rev. Leonard Bumgardner officiating with burial in the Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday at the church from 1-2 PM.
