Ruth Beam Carpenter

She was born  September 24, 1915 in Lincoln County to George Cletus  and Buna Hull Beam.
Ruth  married Alton Carpenter of Cherryville, (North Brook), when she was 17 years old.  She had four (4) sons: John, Jack, Gene and Pat.  Her life revolved around the boys.  She valued her religion and saw to it that the boys were in church.  She valued hard work and saw to it that they worked hard. She valued education and saw that they went to college.  She valued helping others and saw to it that they had a willingness to help others.  She had strong candid opinions that sometime set others back and the four sons are the same way.

She had no daughters, but four daughters-in-law.  Many times she would say “ I have  four wonderful daughters:” Dot, Eleanor, Linda, and Sally.  She had eight (8) grandchildren nine( 9) great grandchildren and one (1) great- great grandchild.

Alton was a farmer, she was the farmer’s wife.  She helped with the farming operation in the fields and the barns.  She provided a very comfortable home and good meals for her family.  As  the boys were growing up, they had lots of friends and extended family that stayed at their home for a day, weeks, months-helping on the farm, eating good meals from the garden-sleeping in the Carpenter’s home.  It was like a motel, always fun and everyone worked hard.  The grandchildren loved staying at her house.  It was like Disney World, only the food was better.

When money was short, she found out-side jobs.  ( clerking in a store, or cut and sew) to supplement family income, so the boys could have what they needed.   A  dedicated  and hard working wife and mother  that made life better for so many others.

She was an active member of Bethlehem United Methodist Church, and United Methodist Women, and was active in the DAR for many years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, three brothers and a sister. She is survived by a sister Mrs. Martha Rhinehart of Mount Holly.
Mama, the boys have done OK, thanks to you,- good wives- good families -  good citizens - no jail time.
