Ruby Sipe Dixon, 91, of Cherryville died August 21, 2010 at Kings Mountain Hospice House.
Mrs. Dixon was born in Gaston Co. on April 27, 1919, a daughter of the late Junius and Amanda Black Sipe. She was formerly employed by Cherryville City Schools at the West Elementary School cafeteria, Carolina Freight Cafe, Raycrest and Sweetree Mfg
Ruby was a direct descendant of the founders of St. John’s Lutheran Church where she was a longtime member and a member of the Gertrude Rudisill Sunday School Class. Mrs. Dixon was an accomplished and talented quilter, loved square dancing, and could prepare a meal for unexpected guests in a short time. She also was known for yeast rolls and could bake a batch for ten or three hundred with great pleasure and pride.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Clarence Neil Dixon, Sr. in 1999, a great-grandson Stuart Dixon, eight sisters and one brother.
Surviving are her children Clarence Neil Dixon, Jr. and wife Jean of Winston Salem and Doris Dixon Alexander and husband Rick of Weddington, grandchildren Beth Dixon Pritchett and husband Mike, Neil Dixon and wife Charlotte, Todd Alexander and wife Jessica, and Chad Alexander and wife Beth, nine great grandchildren Mindy and Collins Pritchett, Andrew and Claire Dixon, Tyler, Carter, Hayden, Caroline, and Joelle Alexander, three brothers-in-laws, four sisters-in-laws and numerous nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great- nephews.
The family wishes to express special thanks to the care given by her neighbor Rita White, the Tabitha Ministry of St. John’s, staff members Andrea and Arlene of Cleveland Regional Medical Center, and the entire staff of Kings Mountain Hospice House.
Graveside services will be held Thursday at 2 PM at the Black Family Cemetery, Foster Rd., Cherryville, NC with Dr. Robert Allen officiating. The family will receive friends after the services at St. John’s Lutheran Church.
