Robert Douglas “Smokey” Kaylor, 59, of 601-A North Dr., died October 18, 2011 from injuries after being struck by a vehicle.
 
He was born in Catawba Co. on October 2, 1952 a son of the late Robert Glenn and Annie Frady Kaylor. Robert was formerly employed by Doran Textiles and helped at the West End Car Wash, the East End Car Wash and Nobles Mini Mart. He was active with the American Legion Post 100 Baseball and rarely missed a game.
 
He is survived by his wife Mary Frances Brittain Kaylor daughter Mallory K. Upton and husband Curtis of Cherryville, son Josh Kaylor of Cherryville, three grandchildren Josie Hamrick, Cory Adams, and Anna Marie Kaylor, and a brother Roger Lee Kaylor and wife Nathalee of Cherryville.
 
Funeral services will be held Friday October 21, 2011 at 3:00 PM at Carpenter’s Funeral Home with the Rev. Bill Chapman officiating with burial in City Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:30 – 2:45 prior to the service at Carpenter’s Funeral Home and at other times at the home.
