Roberta Hayes “Mama” Hallman, 99, of 101 East Ballard St., died April 23, 2009 at Carolina Care Center.

She was born in Cherryville on Sept. 27, 1909 a daughter of the late Stephen D. and Ellen Agatha Ballard Hayes. Mama Hallman was a longtime member of Free Saints Chapel and retired from H & H Grocery.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Monroe Hallman in 1983, a daughter Betty Jo Huss in 1991, and nine brothers and sisters.

Survivors include her daughters and son-in-laws Pansy and J.L. Sellers of Kings Mountain, Sandra and Charles Childers and Carol Cornwell and husband Paul both of Cherryville, six grandchildren Tresa Ratchford, Charlie Sellers, Reba Cease, Lisa Parlier, Chris Harrison and Bryan Pruitt, five great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2 PM at Carpenter’s Funeral Home with Rev. Gene Honeycutt officiating with burial in City Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday from 6:30-8 PM at the funeral home and at other times at the home of Sandra and Charles Childers.
