Rev. Dr. Eugene Curtis Kincaid, 81, formerly of 1937 Tryon Courthouse Road, Bessemer City, NC, passed away May 26, 2009 at Brian Center in Gastonia after a long illness.
The son of the late George and Laura Kincaid, he was born December 2, 1927 in Mt. Lookout, WVA. He was preceded in death by brother, Emory Kincaid; brother-in-law, Danny Harrelson; brother-in-law, Brian Robertson; and special niece, Melody Foster Trakas.
Dr. Kincaid was a graduate of Nicholas County High School in Summersville, WVA and WVA Tech in Montgomery, WVA. He received a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Belmont Abbey College, a Master of Education Degree from UNCC, a Doctor of Ministry degree from Trinity Theological Seminary, Newburg, Indiana, and a Doctor of Philosophy Degree from New Life Theological Seminary, Charlotte, NC. He also studied at Appalachian State University.
Dr. Kincaid pastored many United Methodist Churches in the Western NC Conference from 1957-1993. He served churches in Lowell, Bessemer City, Shelby, Thomasville, Denton, Ellenboro, and Bostic. He also served as an evangelist as long as his health allowed.
He taught school at Mt. Holly Jr. High, South Gastonia Elementary, Hunter Huss High School, Evans College, and New Life Seminary. He had a passion for learning and never stopped studying and teaching. He especially enjoyed teaching U.S. History and religion. He authored and published two books and wrote and copyrighted many songs. He loved to play guitar and sing gospel and country western music.
He was a Lt. Colonel in the Civil Air Patrol and Chaplain in the U.S. Service Command. He loved airplanes and obtained his pilot’s license late in life.
Dr. Kincaid is survived by his wife of 59 years, Mary Ellen Harrelson Kincaid of Pineville; son Randy S. Kincaid and wife Brenda of Bessemer City; daughter Markeeta K. Pepe and husband Ernie of Charlotte; one grandson, Christopher Kincaid and fiancée Shereka Wilson of Charlotte; brother Emil Kincaid and wife Peggy of Occoquan, VA; sister-in-law Alice Kincaid of Mt. Lookout, WVA; sister-in-law Charlie Sue Robertson of Louisburg, NC; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Angelita and George Foster of Bessemer City; numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral services May 28, 2009 at 2:30 pm, at Concord United Methodist Church, Bessemer City. Visitation from 1:00 - 2:15 PM at the church prior to the service. Burial in the church cemetery.
