Dr. Raymond Andrew McKee, died December 23, 2009, in Gaston Memorial Hospital, Gastonia.
Dr. McKee was born November 17, 1933, in Mooresville, NC, one of four children of Raymond Lee and Nita Sloop McKee. He graduated from Mooresville High School, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a BA in Chemistry, and the UNC School of Dentistry.
Dr. McKee practiced general dentistry in Cherryville for 44 years and was a member of the First United Methodist Church.
While in dental school, he was a member of the Beta Beta Chapter of XI Psi Phi, a dental honor society. He was honorably discharged from the United States Public Health Service in Wagner, South Dakota where he served two years as a Senior Assistant Dental Surgeon. He also served as President of the Gaston County Dental Society in 1970.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Glenda Thomas McKee, who died in 2006, a son, Thomas Lee McKee, in 1980, and a brother George Allen McKee.
Survivors include a daughter: Andrea McKee Ray of Kings Mountain, NC. Two grandchildren: Andrew Beam and Taylor Beam, both of Concord NC. Two sisters, Mary Elizabeth Johnston of Mooresville, NC, and Lucille McKee Doster of Troutman, N.C.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM Sunday, Dec. 27, 2009 at the First United Methodist Church, Cherryville, with Rev. Rick Fite officiating. Burial will be in the family plot of Cherryville City Memorial Cemetery.. The Family will receive friends immediately following the funeral service.
