Norman Ray “Num” Ramsey, 82 of 711 Tryon School Road, died December 17, 2010 at his residence.  Mr. Ramsey was born April 25, 1928 in Gaston County a son the late Edwin Dewitt Ramsey and Lelia Dorothy Thornburg Ramsey. He was retired after thirty years of service from the North Carolina DMV as a Heavy Equipment Operator.  Norman was a member of Shady Grove Baptist Church, American Legion Post 243, Cherryville Masonic Lodge 505, Scottish Rites, Oasis Temple.
 
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Jessie Huffman Ramsey, a son Norman E. Ramsey, two sisters, Rachel Huffman and Joyce Carpenter, one brother Don Ramsey.
 
Survivors include one granddaughter, Jennifer Smith of Gastonia three grandsons, Ian Ramsey, Joe Ramsey and Andrew Ramsey all of Greenville S.C. Three  Great Grandchildren, Zachary Zimmerman, Jacob Zimmerman and Emily Ramsey. A number of nieces and nephews, a very special friend, Jim Howell.
 
Graveside services will be held Sunday, December 19, 2010 at Shady Grove Baptist Church Cemetery at 2:00 PM. with Rev. Dr. Bill Lowe officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Masonic Rites at the Graveside.  The family will receive friends at Carpenter’s Funeral Home from 12:00 noon – 1:45 prior to the service.
