Norman Preston Beattie, 89, 240 Bess Rd., went to be with the Lord on Sunday December 4, 2011 at Courtland Terrace in Gastonia.
 
He was born in Gaston Co. on Sept. 1, 1922 a son of the late John William and Margaret Sellers Beattie. Mr. Beattie was a member of the Independent Baptist Tabernacle, former owner of Beattie’s Shell Service and a retired farmer. Also, he was a member of the American Legion, the DAV, and a veteran of the US Army during WW II where he received a Bronze Star and a Purple Heart.
 
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by three sisters Vida Wise, Eva McGinnis, and Dorothy Beattie.
 
Survivors include his wife of 67 years Tassie Terres Beattie, daughter Linda B. Summer and husband David of Anderson, SC, a son Preston Dale Beattie and wife Ethel of Kings Mountain grandson Chad Mayhue and wife Daneen of Canton, Ga, and a great grand
daughter Kaylin Mayhue.
 
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 3 PM at Independent Baptist Tabernacle with Rev. Ralph Carver officiating with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday at Carpenter’s Funeral Home from 6-8 PM and at other times at the home.
