Hazel “Nannie Haz” Leatherman Howell, 91, of 1417 E. Main Street, died March 11, 2011 at Hospice at Wendover in Shelby.  Hazel was born June 9, 1919 in Lincoln County a daughter of the late Russell and Laura Wise Leatherman. She was a member of First United Methodist Church and was the former owner of Log Cabin Day Care and supervisor for Cato Stores.
 
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, David Hillard Howell,  son David Howell and three sisters.
 
Survivors include her daughter Helena Eaker and husband Jack, three grandchildren, Jack Eaker  and wife Becky, Krista Gantt and husband Doug,  Anika Howell Hastings and husband Kelly,  eight great grandchildren, four great great grandchildren two sisters, Dorothy Baxter, and Edith Boyles.
 
Funeral services will be held at First United Methodist Church, Sunday, March 13, 2011 at 2:30 PM.  Rev. Rick Fite and Dr. Vince Hefner officiating.  The family will receive friends from 1:00 -2:15 prior to the service at the church.  Burial will follow in City Memorial Cemetery.
 
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Cleveland County, 951 Wendover Heights Dr. Shelby, NC 28150 or the donors choice.
