William Wade Hovis, 87 of 305 Sunnyside Shady Rest Road, died August 17, 2011 at  his residence.   Mr. Hovis was born October 24, 1923 in Gaston County, a son of the late Thomas Maxwell and Elizabeth Lewis Hovis.   He was a self employed Dairy Farmer and a lifelong member of Concord United Methodist Church were he was a Sunday School Teacher.
 
He addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, Lewis Hovis and Max Hovis, and a sister Sara Beam.
 
Survivors include his wife Sarah Geraldine Eaker Hovis, of the home, sons Jim Hovis and wife Becky, of Charlotte, and Frank Hovis and wife Leigh Anne of Gastonia, a daughter Marie Swift and husband Steve of Bessemer City, eight grandchildren, Sarah Egnor, Thomas Hovis, Emily Bradford, Jonathan Hovis, Erin Reed,  Martin Hovis, Andrew Swift and Lindsay Swift.
 
Funeral Services will be held Friday, August 19, 2011 at 11:30 AM at Concord United Methodist Church in Bessemer City with Rev. John Blalock officiating.  Burial will be private. The family will receive friends from  10:00  to 11:15 AM at the church prior to the service.
 
In lieu of flowers the family request that memorials be made to Concord UMC, 2404 Tryon Courthouse Raod, Bessemer City, 28016 or Gaston County Hospice, P.O. Box 3984, Gastonia, NC 28054.
