Marjorie Eloise Black Phillips, 82, formerly of W. Second St., died Dec.15, 2009 at Catawba Valley Medical Center, Hickory. She was born on Feb. 26, 1927 a daughter of the late Chesley G. Black and Mae Allen Black Brendle. She was a longtime member of First United Methodist Church, Cherryville where she attended the Mae Harrelson Sunday School class and member of the Methodist women and Young at Heart and retired from Blackwelder’s Textiles. Survivors include her husband of 60 years Bernard Phillips, two sons William Bayne Phillips and wife Becky of Hickory and John Pitt Phillips and wife Chris of Crouse six grandchildren and spouses Mark and Stacie Phillips of Utah, Lori Davis of Crouse, Crystal and Scott Essary, Hickory, Christopher and Stephanie Phillips, Lincolnton , Sgt. Andrew and Katie Phillips, Ft. Mitchell, ALA. and Adam and Lindsay Phillips of Greenville, SC, ten great grand children, six brothers and sisters C. G. Black, JR and wife Janette, Crouse, Lorene Aderholt, Crouse, Beth Mosteller and husband Johnny, Hickory, Faye Lackey an husband Gene, Myrtle Beach, Betty Carter and husband Bob, Oklahoma, and Camilla Buff and husband Jimmy of Hickory. Funeral services will be held Friday at First United Methodist Church, Cherryville at 2 pm with Rev. Rick Fite officiating with burial in City Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday from 1-1:45 PM at the church and at other times at the home of Lori Davis, 5222 Doe Meadow Ct., Crouse.
