Margaret Allran Harrelson, died with
grace and dignity on January 24, 2009 at the home of her daughter and
son-in-law, Renna and Keith Long.
Margaret was born May 9, 1916 in Cherryville, NC to
the parents of Henry Winfield and Ethel Davis Allran. As a devoted
wife, she was married to Robert Clay Harrelson, Sr. for forty-three
years. She was a life long member of the First United Methodist Church
in Cherryville. Among her many business endeavors, she operated a dry
cleaners, worked in a dentist office and managed a grocery store. In
her leisure time, she enjoyed bowling, square dancing, beautiful
flowers, and watching Carolina basketball with her grandchildren. Her
family will forever remember her for her Christian example. Margaret
was a loving wife and dedicated caregiver of her husband.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert C.
Harrelson, her daughter, Anne Harrelson Starnes, and a grandson, Tom
Starnes, Jr.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Renna
and Keith Long of Cherryville, Her son Robert Harrelson, Jr., of
Charlotte, her daughter Linda Lewis Helms of Cherryville, a son-in-law
Tom Starnes, of Morganton, seven grandchildren, and eleven great
grandchildren.
A celebration of Margaret’s life will be conducted at First United Methodist Church of Cherryville on Monday, January 26th,
at 4;00 PM The family will receive friends at 3:00 p.m. in the church
sanctuary. At other times, family and friends may gather at the long
home, 504 South Elm Street, Cherryville.
