Margaret McGinnis Ledford Smith Halter, 84 of West Main St., died Wednesday July 29, 2009 at Summit Place in Kings Mountain.
She was born in Lincoln Co. on June 24, 1925 a daughter of the late
William Auton “Audie” and Ellen Bryte Leonhardt McGinnis. She a member
of First United Methodist Church and was retired librarian with 30
years service at the Cherryville branch of Gaston Co. Library, avid
bowler, and charter member of The Cherryville Little Theater.
She was preceded in death by her husbands Clyde Ledford, Rote Smith and John Halter and six brothers and sisters.
Survivors include her sons Dick Ledford of Cherryville and David
Ledford and wife Jane of Orange Park, FL, five grandchildren Whitney
Ledford, Jason Ledford, Ben Ledford, Amy Carlson, and Kelly Jernigan,
three great grandchildren and three sisters Sue Gilbert, Lincolnton,
Carol Boggs, Lincolnton, and Lib Rogers, Cherryville.
A memorial service will be held Friday at 11 AM at First United
Methodist Church with Rev. Rick Fite officiating with a private burial
in City Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday from
10-10:45 AM at the church.
