Margaret Dellinger Dixon, age 82, , retired English teacher, died January 11,
2010 at Hospice at Wendover, Shelby. She was a native of Cherryville living at
5025 Old Pine Lane. She was the daughter of the late Grover and Bessie Beatie
Dellinger.
 
Margaret was a graduate of Lenoir Rhyne College and retired in 1983 after having
taught high school for 33 years. Margaret taught 31 of those years at Bessemer
City High School and 2 years at Cherryville. She served as Chairman of the
English department and sponsored the high school yearbook for 23 years.  Mrs.
Dixon was a member of the NCEA and NEA , and former member of Delta Kappa Gamma
and the teacher’s honorary professional organization. A lifelong member of St.
John’s Lutheran Church, she served on various committees and taught Sunday
school for over 45 years.
 
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her daughter Marka
Wilson in 2006 and a great grandson Dylan Oder in 2009.
 
Survivors include her husband of 61 years Mark Dixon, grandchildren Heather Oder
and Mark Wilson, great grandchildren Hayden and Kyler Wilson and Devein Oder,
and a sister Alpha Mae Heavner of Crouse.
 
Funeral services will be held at St. John’s Lutheran Church on Thursday at 3 PM
conducted by Rev. Dr. Robert E. Allen with burial to follow in St. John’s
Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday from 1:30-2:30 PM at
Carpenter’s Funeral Home and at other times at the home.
