Lula Beam Mauney, 106 years old, a  resident of 134 Mauney Avenue, Cherryville N. C., died March 1, 2010 at Cleveland Pines Nursing Center in Shelby, N. C. She was born March 18, 1903, the daughter of Wiley I.Beam and Margeret E. Stroupe. She was married to Floyd Lee Mauney fifty-four years until his death in 1973. She was a life member of Shady Grove Baptist Church, where she was active in the 3 to 4 year olds Beginner Department for 40 years. She was also a member of the Woman’s Missionary Union.

She was preceded in death by daughter Ruth E. Mauney, son Harold H. Mauney, Sr., daughter-in-law Mandy S. Mauney of Cherryville, son-in-law Lloyd Eugene Bookout of Hialeah, Florida and grandson William Nelson Mauney of Gainesville, Georgia. She is survived by her children Robert L. Mauney,  Marie B. Nestlerode and son-in-law John and daughther-in-law Eloise D. Mauney of Cherryville, Joel B. Mauney and daughter-in-law Jo Ann of Shelby, Ray D. Mauney, Sr. and daughter-in-law Marianna of Gainesville, Georgia. Her grandchildren Gail M. Clary of Shelby, Lavonne B. Robinson, Melba B. Lawrence of Cherryville, Douglas Bookout of Westminster, Maryland, Michael Bookout of Hickory, Harold H. Mauney, Jr. of Cherryville, Duane Mauney of Washington D C, Ray D. Mauney, Jr. of Clermont, Georgia, and Melissa M Simpson of Alpharetta, Georgia. Her  great-grandchildren Scott Black of Kings Mountain, Sharon R. O’Dell of Iron Station, Kelly L. Wilson of Charlotte, Jennifer Mauney of Columbia, South Carolina, Dustin Mauney of Cherryville, Lauren Mauney of Clermont, Georgia, Klay J. Simpson, and Carter Simpson of Alpharetta, Georgia, and her great-great-grandchild Elizabeth Black of Gastonia.

The family will receive friends from 1:00pm to 1:45pm on Friday March 5, 2010 at the Family Life center of Shady Grove Baptist Church, Cherryville, N C. The funeral will be held at 2:00pm there in the main sanctuary with Rev. Tim Robbins officiating,  and burial in the church cemetery.
