Lillie Mae VanDyke Leatherman, 81, of 305 Benaja Dr., bravely and peacefully went to be with the Lord with her three daughters Brenda, Rita, and Sandra at her side on January 15, 2009 after a two year battle with a brain tumor.

Mrs. Leatherman was born on Jan. 13, 1928 in Gaston Co. a daughter of the late David Luther and Alice Black VanDyke. She was retired from PPG and was a longtime member of First Presbyterian Church, Cherryville.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Russell Leatherman a brother Robert VanDyke and two sisters Betty Hudson and Mary Sue Costner.

Survivors include her daughters Brenda Sipe and husband Larry of Kings Mountain, Rita Robinson and husband H. R. of Charlotte, NC, and Sandra Frelich and husband Monty of Sanford, NC, six grandchildren Cari Sipe, Chapel Hill, Casey Sipe, Charlotte, Jamie Furr, Charlotte, Stacey Hinton and husband Jeff, Mooresville,. Greg Robinson, Cheraw, SC, and Courtney Jones and husband David , Sanford, and three great grandchildren Dylan Furr, Hazel Hinton and Lily Ann Marie Jones.

Funeral services will be held Sunday at 3 PM at First Presbyterian Church with Dr. Bill Lowe officiating with burial in City Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday at the home from 3-5 PM.
