Letha Mae Heavner Avery, age 95, of 1264 Wilma Sigmon Road, Lincolnton, died November 23, 2009 at Carrington Place, Matthews, NC. Mrs. Avery was born October 14, 1914 in Lincoln County a daughter of the Late Luther Nathaniel Heavner and Ellen Self Heavner. She was co owner and operator of Avery Farm and Greenhouse, in Crouse, NC. She was famous for her azaleas and rhododendron . She was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church, in Cherryville where she was a member of the Faith Sunday School Class and the Current Mission Group.
Mrs. Avery was a loving mother and grandmother, wonderful southern cook, and given to hospitality. She was a nurturing and encourager of her family and friends with her cards, gifts, and kind words. She valued time spent tending to her various assortment of garden plants.
In additions to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Lee Roy Avery, brothers John , Vance, Tom, Kenneth, Jack Heavner, and a sister, Vida Wehunt.
Survivors include a daughter, Linda Avery of Indian Trail, NC, a grandson Gerald McNeely and wife Myra of Mint Hill, NC, sister-in-law Alpha Mae Heavner of Cherryville, NC and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, November, 28, 2009 at 2:00 PM at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Cherryville, with Rev. Wayne Key officiating with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church from 12:30-1:45 PM
