Lawrence Julius “Bub” George, 69, of 1271 Pearl Dr. died Sunday May 3, 2009 at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.

He was born on August 3, 1939 a son of the late Lawrence Odell and Edna Hovis George. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, the Col. William A. Stowe Camp 2142 Sons of Confederate Veterans, American Legion Post #100, and a Vietnam veteran of the US Air Force. Bub was retired purchasing agent for H. D. Supply formerly working at Hugh’s Supply and Douglas Leonhardt and Associates. He was also retired purchasing agent for Mohican Mills in Lincolnton.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years Betty Jo Young George, daughter Wendy George of Cherryville, and a sister Vicki Keaton and husband Spence of Albany, GA.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 4 PM at St. John’s Lutheran Church with Rev. Dr. Robert Allen and Rev. Doug Ramsey officiating with burial in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday at Carpenter’s Funeral Home from 6:30)- 8 PM and at other times at the home.
