Katherine Maxine Costner Devine, 93, of Bryant Pond , Maine formerly of Cherryville, died Monday June 29, 2009.
She was born in Cleveland Co. on Jan. 1, 1916 a daughter of the late Zeb V. and Laura Vaughn Costner. She was a 1933 graduate of Shelby High School, worked many years at the Dover Mill and Reeves Bros. in North and South Carolina and after retirement, enjoyed working at the Medical Center Pharmacy in Cherryville.
Mrs. Devine was active in the First Baptist Church, Cherryville until ill health caused her to move in with her daughter and son in law. She never hesitated to tell people she was from Cherryville, NC even when her memory was failing. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Hilbert Devine, granddaughter Laura Mixson, sisters Louise Beam and Winifred Adams amd a brother Zeb Costner, Jr.
Survivors include her daughter Meta “Mimi” Mixson and husband Miles of Bryant Pond, ME, granddaughter Kathi Schandelmeier and husband Eric, of Greene, ME, two great grandsons Brooks and Lucas Schandelmeier of Greene, ME., brother Tom Costner of Shelby, sisters-in-law Ruby Phillips and Nancy Moss both of Cherryville, brothers-in-law Aaron Moss and Bill Allen both of Cherryville , and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Monday July 6, 2009 at the Chapel of First Baptist Church with Dr. Vince Hefner officiating with burial to follow in City Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday from 10-10:45 AM at the Chapel of First Baptist Church.
