J. W. Smith, Jr., 38, of Lester St., died Tuesday July 12, 2011 at Carolina Medical Center. He was born on October 7, 1972, a son of Kathy Slaughter Smith of Cherryville and J. W. Smith, Sr. of Granite Falls. He was employed by Cantrell Roofing of Hickory.
In addition to his parents he is survived by his daughters, Amber Smith of Hickory and Kimmie Smith of Hickory, step mother Karen Smith of Granite Falls, sisters Lisa Gantt and husband Scott of Conover and Heather Wilson and Ashley Wilson of Hickory, niece Katie Rudisill and husband Jeffrey of Cherryville and nephew Travis Gates of Conover.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2 PM at Carpenter’s Funeral Home with Rev. Leonard Bumgardner officiating with burial in City Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday at the funeral home from 12:30-1:45 PM and at other times at the home of Buck Carpenter, Lester St., Cherryville, NC
