Joy Cook Davis, 62, of Hastings Rd. died Sunday March 1, 2009 at her residence.

She was born on February 2, 1947 a daughter of the late Leola Setzer Cook Goff and Ben Cook. Mrs. Davis was a member of Mt. Beulah Baptist Church and a former substitute teacher with Gaston Co. Schools.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years John H. Davis in 2007, a son Jonathan Andrew Davis, and a brother David Cook.

Survivors include three daughters Donna D. Hastings and husband Randy of Bessemer City, Teresa D. Philbeck of Bessemer City, and Holly D. Hollar and husband Rev. Keith of Wilmington, NC, son John Aaron “Chip” Davis of Homestead, Fla., four grandchildren Jordan Hastings, Justin Philbeck, Adam Hollar, and Rachel Hollar, brother Rev. Lanny Cook and wife Judy of Bessemer City, and a sister Cheerie Weaver and husband Fred of Gastonia.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2 PM at Mt. Beulah Baptist Church with Rev. Fain Farmer, Rev. Lanny Cook, and Rev. Keith Hollar officiating with burial in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Wed. at Carpenter’s Funeral Home from 6-8 PM and at other times at the home of Donna and Randy Hastings, 317 Aderholt Rd.
