Joyce Elaine Hudson
Summer, age 74, of 140 Oak Tree Lane, died Sunday, October 31, 2010 in
Gaston Memorial Hospital. She was born August 21, 1936, in Gastonia,
the daughter of the late Jacob Hudson and Valaree Darby Hudson
Dellinger. Joyce was a member of the First Baptist Church and formerly
employed as an insurance agent with Kenneth B. Beam Insurance Agency,
Cherryville Insurance Agency and retired from Watson Insurance Agency.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Murrell Summer and a sister, Allene Robinson.
Survivors:
Sons: Steve Summer and wife Joy, Michael and a family friend, Aaron
Watson, all of Cherryville. A daughter : Pamela S. Johnston and husband
Bob, of Cherryville. One sister: Marcia Massey of Myrtle Beach, S. C., a
brother in law: Roy Robinson of Winston Salem, a sister in law, Deanna
S. Daggerhart of Cherryville and a special friend: Debbie Beam Austin,
of Cherryville. Four nieces and 2 nephews.
Grandchildren: Shane
Summer and wife Kristin, Tyler Creason and MaKenzie Summer, all of
Cherryville, Jennifer McMahn of Murphy. Great granddaughters, Rylee
Summer, and Allie Summer, both of Cherryville.
Funeral services
will be conducted at 3:00PM Wednesday at the First Baptist Church, with
Rev. Dr. Vince Hefner and Rev. Kevin Bennett, officiating, burial will
follow in the St. John’s Lutheran Church Cemetery. The family will
receive friends at First Baptist Church from 1:45PM to 2:45PM
Wednesday.
