Johnie Lester Boyd, Jr., 64, of Dane Drive, formerly of Cherryville, died on his birthday Feb. 21, 2011 at the Robin Johnson House.
Johnie was born in Gaston Co. a son of the late Johnie L. and Mildred Dalton Boyd, Sr. He was a Viet Nam veteran of the US Air Force serving from 1966-1970. Mr. Boyd was retired clerk with the US Postal Service in Belmont and Charlotte. He attended University of South Miss., Gaston College and Western Carolina. In addition to his parents he is also preceded in death by a sister Pat Parker and a brother Joe Boyd.
Survivors include his brother Ronnie Boyd wife Judi of Cherryville, sisters Elaine Hallman and husband Garland of Rutherfordton,, Margaret Vaughn and husband Ron of Athens, GA, Libby Mervin of Myrtle Beach, SC, Nancy Costner husband Dennis of Cherryville, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A gathering of friends will be held Thursday from 2:30-3:30 PM at Carpenter’s Funeral Home and a Celebration of Johnie’s life will be held at 3:30PM at the funeral home.
