John W. McSwain, age 79, of 916 Tot Dellinger Road, died Monday, August 1, 2011 at Hospice of Cleveland County at Wendover, Shelby, N. C.
John was born on September 18, 1931 in Gaston Co., a son of Lela Faye Black McSwain of Cherryville and the late Marvin McSwain. He was the retired owner and operator of McSwain Building and Contracting and a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church.
In addition to his father he is preceded in death by a brother Bob McSwain and a great grandson Blair Jackson Mull
In addition to his mother he is survived by his wife of 60 years Betty Fisher McSwain of the home,, daughters and son in law: Kathy M. and R.J., Moss,Jr. of Cherryville, Rebecca “Becky” McSwain of Gastonia, two grandchildren Stephanie Dellinger and husband George of Iron Station and Julia Moss of Cherryville, great grandchildren Houston and Georgia Rae Dellinger, and Ryan Alan Mull, sister-in-law Maxine McSwain, and numerous cousins.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 3 PM in Oak Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Travis Mull and Rev. Jerry Lail officiating with burial in Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6-8 PM at Carpenter’s Funeral Home and at other times at the home.
