Johnny Cody Lingerfelt, 64, of 1011 N. Mountain Street, died April 2, 2011 at his residence. Johnny was born March 21, 1947 in Lincoln County, a son of the late Horace McKnight and Lona Cody Lingerfelt. He formerly worked for the City of Gastonia in the Maintenance Department, faithfully served in the US Army in Vietnam, was a member of American Legion Post 100, and a member of the YMCA of Cherryville.
Survivors include his daughter, Tasha Roxanne Abernathy and husband David, of Vale, two grandchildren, Logan Abernathy and J. D. Abernathy, companion, Linda Ward, of Cherryville, brother, G.D. Lingerfelt, of Cherryville and Junior Lingerfelt, of Lincolnton, step daughter, Gwyne Goins, of Lincolnton, special person, Michelle Anthony of Lincolnton and daughter Kaley Lewis, best friend, Buck Carpenter, of Cherryville, numerous friends and family.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 6, 2011 at 3:00 PM at Cherryville Missionary Methodist Church with Rev. Bobby Holtsclaw officiating. Burial will follow in City Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends April 5, 2011, from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at the Carpenter’s Funeral Home, Cherryville.
Memorials may be made to the family to defray medical expenses.
