John Edward Johnson, 81, 211 Oliver St., died August 8, 2009 at his residence. He was born in Cleveland Co. on May 28, 1928 a son of the late Clayton and Amanda Parker Johnson.

Mr. Johnson was retired from textiles and a member of Midview Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister Nadine Morrison and a brother Garl Johnson.

Survivors include two sons Jerry Johnson, North Carolina and Gary Short of Spindale, three daughters Judy Jenkins of north Carolina, Jackie Hayes of Crouse, and Darlene Deaton of Dallas, nine grandchildren, brother Willard “Pete” Johnson, kings Mountain, sisters Muriel Grant and Shirley Reynolds both of Crouse  special friend companion Virginia Short and friend Larry Hannon.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at Noon at Carpenter’s Funeral Home with Rev. Ronnie Lackey and Rev. Bob Hope officiating with burial to follow in City Memorial Cemetery.  The family will receive friends Tuesday from 10-11:45 AM and at other times at the home.
