John Henry Haynes, 82, of 247 Gold St. died Sunday January 3, 2010 at his
residence.
 
He was born in Catawba Co. on June 4, 1927 a son of the late Mike and Florence
Abernathy Haynes. He was a member of Teamsters local #61, retired long line
driver for Carolina Freight, formerly employed by Wix Corp., and was a veteran
of the US Navy serving during WW II.
 
John was a devoted father and grandfather who enjoyed restoring old cars and
racing.
 
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years Reba
Heavner Haynes on May 3, 2009 and seven brothers and sisters.
 
Survivors include his children Johnny L. Haynes and wife Phyllis of Lawndale,
Gary S. Haynes and wife Robin of Cherryville and Sylvia H. Reep and husband
Randy of Cherryville, eight grandchildren  Richard Haynes, Mark Haynes, Andy
Haynes, Krista Haynes, Hope Wilson, Rusty Haynes, Trent Haynes and Allison
Haynes, eight great grandchildren, and two sisters Claudine Elmore of Crouse,
and Tish Bumgardner of Lincolnton.
 
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 3 PM at Cherryville Missionary
Methodist Church with Rev. Bobby Holtsclaw officiating with burial to follow in
City Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6:30-8 PM
at Carpenter’s Funeral Home and at other times at the home.

Shelby, NC 28150.
