Jesse Lee Smith, age 85 of 2735 Land Harbor ,11 Spruce Pine Road, Newland, NC formerly of Cherryville, died December 1, 2011 at Cannon Memorial Hospital in Linville, NC.
Jesse was born May 25, 1926 in Buncombe County a son of the late Millard Lee and Sarah Mae Creasman Smith. He was retired from Carolina Freight Carriers with 33 years of service, Tour Bus Driver for 12 years and a shuttle bus driver at Grandfather Mountain. Jesse was member of Pineola Presbyterian Church and was a veteran of WWII, US Army. He attended Dell School of Medical Technology and had a degree in Radiographic Technique.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Barnwell and Lois Smith.
Survivors include his wife Loyse Hull Smith of the home, a son Jerald Millard Smith of Lenoir City, TN, a daughter Kricket Smith of Cherry Hill, NJ, stepson, Jerry Wayne Beck and wife Deborah of Newland, NC, three Special Children: Dessa H. Millwood of Cherryville, Sydney H. Beck of Tampa, Fla., Helene Hampton, Tampa, Fla., a brother Kenneth Smith and wife Edna, of Cherryville and Three sisters, Margaret Mitchell of Cherryville and Ella Mae and John Allen of Dearborn, Michigan, Ruth and Harry Wilson of Asheville, N. C.
Four Grandchildren and Five Great Grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held December 4, 2011 at 3:00PM, in Cone Memorial Chapel of Carpenter’s Funeral Home, Cherryville, NC with Rev. Dr. Bill Lowe and Rev. Keith Freeman. Burial will follow in City Memorial Cemetery with Masonic Rites to be conducted at the graveside. The family will receive friends the day of service from 1:30PM to 2:45 prior to the funeral Service.
