James Harlan Potter, 83 of 101 Charles St., died Thursday Jan. 22, 2009 at Carolina Care Center.

He was born Nov. 2, 1925 in Watauga Co. a son of the late James Franklin

And Bessie Clawson Potter. “Jim” was a retired long line driver with 38 years service with Carolina Freight Carriers Corp., member of American Legion Post #100, and a veteran of WW II serving in the US Navy.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by five brothers and sisters,

and one great grandchild.

Survivors are his wife of 60 years Helen Marie Hardin Potter, three sons James F. Potter and wife Pat of Mt. Holly, Daniel Potter and wife Beverly of Cherryville, and Gary Wayne Brown and wife Lynn of Shelby, eight grandchildren Travis Potter and wife Christy of Asheville, Grant Potter of Mt. Holly, Lori Ann Potter Drewery and husband Chad, of Cherryville, Christopher Black and Wife Nikki of Gastonia, Marcus Black of Clover, SC, Samantha Black of Cherryville, Brady Goforth and wife Anita of Kings Mountain, and Casey Lockler and husband Joseph of Charlotte, and eight great grandchildren and a sister Kate Hovis, of Cherryville

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2 PM at First Baptist Church of Cherryville with Dr. Vince Hefner officiating. Interment will follow in City Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday at the church from noon to 1:45 PM and at other times at the home. (Come as you are)
