Henry Lee Beam, Jr., 89, of Cherryville, died Monday June 7, 2010 at Carolina Care Center.

He was born on January 28, 1921 in Cleveland Co., a son of the late Henry Lee and Odell Brinkley Beam, Sr. Mr. Beam was a graduate of Waco High School, member of the First Wesleyan Church, Cherryville, member of the Woodman of the World, former member of Teamster Local #61. H. L. was a retired driver for Carolina Freight Carriers and former self employed independent truck driver and owner.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by four sisters Faith Edwards, Hope Lewis, Charity Williams and Clara Wallace, a brother Murray Beam, and a grandson Charlie Beam..

Survivors include his wife of 70 years Imogene Newton Beam, three daughters Priscilla Helms and husband Nikki of Gastonia, Judy Beam of Cherryville and Denise Shuford of Cherryville, two sons H. L. Beam III and wife Diana of Cherryville, and Michael Beam and wife Linda of Cherryville, eleven grandchildren, Traci Shiles, Steven and Patrick Helms all of Gastonia, M’shel Bowen, Deborah Hopper, Lucinda Brown, Angela Walker, Ashley Long, Zachary Shuford, Jerod Shuford, and Lee Shuford all of Cherryville, .eighteen great grandchildren, a brother Don Beam of Kings Mountain, and a sister Jo Anderson of Cherryville.

The family would like to offer a special “Thanks” to the staff of Carolina Care for providing such excellent and loving care to Mr. Beam.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 3 PM at First Wesleyan Church with burial to follow in City Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church Wednesday from 1:30-2:45 PM
