Dessie Mae Walker DeVenny, 88, of Yarn Mill Rd., died Saturday October 8, 2011 at Carolina Care Center.
She was born on January 26, 1923 in Cleveland Co. a daughter of the late J.A and Cora Lou Ledford Philbeck. Mrs. DeVenny was a longtime member of Friendly Chapel Baptist Church, retired from Doran and formerly employed by Hardee’s in Shelby where she proudly baked many biscuits.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husbands Rev. Roy Walker and Blaine DeVenny, two sisters Gracie Hullender and Cora Lee Wagner, five brothers Rushie, Robert, Glennard, Charles , and Andrew Philbeck.
Survivors include her daughter Donna Clark and husband Bam of Shelby, two granddaughters and a great granddaughter, a sister Letha Shehan of Bessemer City.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 PM at Carpenter’s Funeral Home with Rev. Lloyd Brown and Fred Towery officiating with burial to follow in Friendly Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday at Carpenter’s from 6-8 PM and other times at the home.
