Mrs. Bonnie Fay Kendrick Long Smith, a centenarian, of 2040 West Hwy 150,
Lincolnton, died January 9, 2010, peaceably at home, living a rich and fruitful
life of 100 years 1 month and 8 days.
 
 She was born in Gaston County on December 1, 1909, the daughter of the late
Alfred Voyde and Leona Helms Kendrick, Bonnie was preceded in death also by her 
husbands; Fredrick Long and James Vernon Smith, two sisters; Bessie Kendrick
Moss and Lucile Kendrick Wehunt.
 
Bonnie  was a longtime  member of Lincoln Avenue Baptist Church, Lincolnton, and
formerly employed at Matthews Belk Department Store, Cherryville and  Boger City
Mills in Boger City.
 
Survivors include her daughter Betty Long Avery and husband Leonard of
Lincolnton, a sister Edith Kendrick Boring of Asheville, six grandchildren and
numerous great and great great grandchildren.
 
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 1 PM at Carpenter’s Funeral Home with
Rev. Ken Jones officiating with burial to follow in City Memorial Cemetery. The
family will receive friends Tuesday at the funeral home from noon -12:45 PM and
at other times at the home.
