Billy Lee Hampton, 62 of Mary’s Grove Church Rd., died Sept 18, 2011 at Gaston Memorial Hospital. He was born on Nov. 15, 1948 in Swain co. a son of the late T. B. and Lexie Cochran Hampton.
Bill proudly served in the US Army 3rd Infantry (Viet Nam), was a faithful member of the American Legion Post #243 where he was a member of the Honor Guard, and Gaston Co. 40 & 8 Voiture 1416. Mr. Hampton was a retired machinist with Carolina Textiles of Kings Mountain.
He is survived by his wife of 38 years Nancy Rowland Hampton, two daughters Sherry and husband Richard “Bo” McMullan of Cherryville, and Brandy Leigh Hampton of Kings Mountain, two grandchildren Dakota Wease and Peyton McMullan, two brothers Mike Hampton and wife Margie of Malabar, Fla, and Dean Hampton and wife Cyndi of Beggs, OK. and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held Tuesday at 7:30 PM at Carpenter’s Funeral Home with Rev. Lloyd Hunt officiating. The family will receive friends Tuesday at the funeral home from 6-7:15 PM and at other times at the home of Sherry and Bo McMullan, Spinner’s Dr., Cherryville.
