William Lamar “Bill” Rhew, 72, of 133 Suncrest Rd., died Tuesday Dec. 6, 2011 at Gaston Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.
 
Bill was born in Buncombe Co on March 12, 1939 a son of the late Charlie Lemar Rhew and Mirene Huntley Rhew Styles. Mr. Rhew was a veteran of the US Navy , Owner of Diversified Fiberglass Fabricators in Cherryville, and a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church. He was also active in the Cherryville Masonic Lodge #505 AF & AM, Charlotte Scottish Rite bodies, member of the Oasis Shrine Temple of Charlotte, member and past president of the Cherryville Shrine Club, American Legion Post #100 and on the Board of Directors of the Cherryville Area Ministries.
 
In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his wife Wilma Silver Rhew in 2005.
 
Survivors include his son William Lamar “Bill” Rhew II and wife Leslie of Yadkinville, daughter Belinda Martin of Cherryville, six grandchildren Natasha Alexander and husband Bryce of Cherryville, Ashley Lackey and husband Wesley, William Rhew III and wife Jamie, Lauren Rhew,  Alex Rhew, and Mick Silver, three great grandchildren Sierra Alexander, Lilah Rhew and Michael Lamar Silver III, sisters Edna Smith and husband Ken of Cherryville and Gladys Dyer and husband Bob of Asheville, and brother Jim Rhew and wife Claudine of Asheville, special friend Serita Hartman.
 
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2 PM at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church with Rev. Malcolm Lurch officiating with burial in the church cemetery with Masonic Rites. The family will receive friends Wednesday at Carpenter’s Funeral Home from 6-8 PM and at other times at the home of Belinda Martin 511 Sunbeam Farm Rd., Cherryville.
 
In lieu of flowers donation may be made to Shriner’s Children Hospital, 950 W. Faris Rd., Greenville, SC 29601 or to Oxford Children’s Home, 600 College St., Oxford, NC 27565
