Sgt. Barney P. Owens, (Ret) 76, of 449 Roy Eaker Rd., died August 2, 2009 at Courtland Terrace in Gastonia.
He was born August 2, 1933 in Prater, VA. A son of the late Barney P. and Lena Kiser Owens. Barney was a retired Sgt in the US Army with 20 years service and also retired electrician from Dora Yarn.
The family would like to express special “Thanks” to Courtland Terrace for the special and loving care given to Mr. Owens. Barney was a dedicated serviceman, father, and friend. He will be greatly missed by all.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Mary Ruth Bryant Owens in 1995, a daughter Delores “DeeDee” Pittillo, brother Jack Owens, and a sister Delores “Midge” Owens.
Survivors include his son Ernie Ferrell and wife Shirley of Maiden, four daughters Linda Wright and husband Terry of Newton, Glenda Moss and husband Tom, of Cherryville, Brenda Whitlock and husband Les of Cherryville, and Lynn Owens anf Duran Moore of Dallas, nine grandchildren, five great grandchildren, and four brothers and sisters, Hollis Owens, Texas, Rebel Owens, Nevada, Larry Owens and Wanda Ranson, Virginia.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2 PM At Carpenter’s Funeral Home with Rev. Mike Staton officiating with Burial in City Memorial Cemetery with full military honors by the US Army. The family will receive friends Thursday from Noon-1:45 PM at the funeral home and at other times at the home of Glenda and Tom Moss, 607 W. Church St., Cherryville, NC
