Barbara Newton Cochran, 67, of 104 South Oak St., died Monday August 8, 2011 at her residence. She was born on Dec. 16, 1943 in Cherryville a daughter of the late Fred Walton Newton and Kathryn Gibson Newton Blue. Barbara was owner of Tax Service by Cochran, former owner of H.&R. Block, Cherryville and member of Soul’s Harbor Tabernacle in Gastonia.
 
She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Ueastes  “Hooch” Cochran, sons Mike Cochran and Angie Millwood, Wayne and Sharon Cochran, daughters Paula Cochran and Diane C. and Jonathan Jackson, eight grandchildren Ben, Heather, Whitney and Blake Cochran, Autumn and Noelle Jackson and Cheyanne and Chenoah Millwood, brothers Richard and Darrell Bowman, sister Brenda Moon and half sister Karen Goodman.
 
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 AM at Soul’s Harbor Tabernacle with Rev. James Chambers, Rev. Timothy Setzer, and Rev. Chuck Poole officiating with burial to follow in Gaston Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the church on Wednesday from 6-8 PM and at other times at the home. In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to the family.
