Ava Minnie Absher Ford, of 1314 Foster Rd., formerly of Guffy Rd., died Monday January 4, 2010 at her residence.
She was born in Gaston Co. on March 12, 1920 a daughter of the late John and Ida Neill Absher.
She was a longtime member of First Presbyterian Church where she was Elder Emeritus and belonged to the Mary Nichols Sunday School Class. She also, belonged to the Cherryville Booster’s Club, and past Worthy Matron of the Cherryville Order of the Eastern Star. Ava was retired from Gaston County Schools where she was manager of the Cherryville High School cafeteria for 24 years and previously employed at the Carlton Mill.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Zeb Henry Ford in 1977, a son Johnny Ford, brother R.E. Absher and sisters Essie Eaker, Bertie Hartsoe, and Margaret Short.
Survivors include her daughter with whom she resided Joyce Sellers and husband Troy of Cherryville, daughter-in-law Vicki Ford of Cherryville, four grandchildren Michele Sellers, Greg and Leslie Sellers, and Sumer and David Smith all of Cherryville, and Johnny and Traci Ford of Mt. Holly, ten great grandchildren Katelyn, Molly Cathryn and Cayson Sellers, Dixon Wyte, Madison Parker, Carter and Jackson Smith, Hailey and Alyssa Ford, and Erica Haas and two sisters Pearl Sisson of Gastonia, and Lorena Matich of Leesburg, Fla.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at First Presbyterian Church at 3 PM with burial in City memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday at Carpenter’s Funeral Home from 6-8 PM and at other times at the home.
