Angelita Hollifield Hovis, 88, of East Main St., died Sunday Dec. 27, 2009 at Carolina Care Center.
Mrs. Hovis was born in Gaston Co. on November 22, 1921, a daughter of the late Pinkney and Mary White Hollifield. She was formerly employed at the Rhyne Houser, was a beautician for many years and a member of the First Presbyterian Church.
She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother who enjoyed cooking for her family and friends. She always wanted everyone well fed.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband James Ralph “Tom” Hovis in 2001, a daughter Janice Anthony in 1999, a son-in-law Dennis Anthony in 2004, two brother and a sister.
Survivors include her son Ron Hovis and wife Janice of Cherryville, five grandchildren Angela Hester and husband Kenneth of Cherryville, David Anthony and wife Teresa of Poquoson, VA, Jeffrey Anthony and wife Kim of Yorktown, VA, Julie H. Wyatt and husband Jamey of Cherryville and David Hovis,Jr. of Mooresville, NC eight great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren one sister Madeline Lynn, of Cherryville several special nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 AM at First Presbyterian Church with Dr. Bill Lowe officiating with burial to follow in City Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 9:30-10:45 AM at the church and at other times at the home of Ron and Janice Hovis.
