Alvin L. McSwain, Sr., age 89, of 1235 Black Road, died at home, Monday, June 1, 2009, after a brief illness. Alvin was born December 13, 1919, the son of the late Oliver and Maggie Black McSwain. He was a life-time member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church, a deacon, former chairman of deacons, president of Hugh Helm’s Sunday school class, choir member for 63 years, loved to play his harmonica at church .Alvin was retired from Dora Yarn Mill, where he was oiler and watchman and retired warehouse foreman at Carolina Freight. Farming was his favorite past time and pleasure.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife Lois Dellinger McSwain, in 1995, eight brothers and one sister.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00PM Thursday, June 4, 2009 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church with Rev. Wayne Key and Rev. Kenneth Gibson officiating, interment will follow in the church cemetery. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the service. The family will receive friends, Wednesday night from 6:00PM to 8:00PM at Carpenter’s Funeral Home.
